Wreningham Play Project

We are a small committee working hard to raise funds for park equipment on Wreningham recreation grounds. We have reached our first target which means we are in a position to start applying for some large grants.

The Parish Council’s recent RoSPA inspection on the existing play equipment recommended some maintenance work to be carried out. We have decided not to spend some of the funds on this equipment but remove it and prepare the ground for new equipment which will be ready once we have secured some more funding.

There will of course be a gap of time between the old equipment being replaced with new equipment, but does allow us time to prepare the ground properly.

The initial groundwork includes the removal and re-siting of some existing equipment; preparing the ground; and, in some areas sowing grass seed.

Please take extra care on the field and keep away from the roped off areas.

If you want to find out more about the playing field project or would like to join the committee see notices placed on the Wreningham web-site or contact Jill Hustler or Claire Cormack.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation – The Playing Field Committee.

Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee
WRENINGHAM CELEBRATIONS

I have today written to Her Majesty the Queen with an invitation to our village during her Diamond Jubilee Progress and I will let you know when I have her reply. In my letter I have outlined the plans created by the village committee:

- a booklet about Wreningham's last sixty years [the village has a tradition of creating Royal Jubilee booklets]
- a video about Wreningham today, reflecting on sixty years of change and development
- a Songs of Praise service at All Saints Church, Wreningham, on Sunday evening, 3 June
- a 'street party' at the village centre on Monday 4 June 2012
- our probable inclusion, on All Saints Church tower, with the nation's Beacons that evening.

Our celebrations require preparation and the committee hopes to employ every single one of you in some way or other!? More involvement equals more enjoyment! Committee meetings will now be posted on this web site and you are all welcome to attend.

In the Christmas Message Her Majesty mentions this country's links with the Commonwealth, a 'family of people' she greatly values. With this in mind I made mention in my letter about All Saints Church, Wreningham, Chivu, Zimbabwe (ex Commonwealth), a church created in the Victorian period and a link which we maintain to this day. The Reverend A W Upcher of our church was instrumental in the creation of All Saints, Chivu, Zimbabwe and windows in our church commemorate him and, of course, Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee. I do hope that we will be able to commemorate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee with such a window. Specific contributions for a commemorative church window will be gratefully received and acknowledged by the Celebrations Committee, care of the Chairman. Cheques payable to the Wreningham Jubilee Committee.

Wreningham Celebrations Committee Chair. Ian Dobson. 6 January 2012.

Wreningham Diamond Jubilee Community Orchard

Yes, you all heard the rumour and it is indeed now in existence. By special arrangement and with many thanks to the Lucchetti's, High House Farm, Wymondham Road, Wreningham, we now have an orchard of fourteen apple trees (traditional Norfolk species). Hopefully offering early blooms for Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee and as the years go by superb fruit for the village. Anyone with a growing, harvesting or juice making interest contact Ian 489725.

Village Games Co-ordinator Needed!

Active Norfolk are asking villages across the county to assemble squads of players to compete in different sports varying from 5-a-side football, short mat bowls, tennis, athletics, table tennis, badminton, rounders, fitness triathlon, archery, netball and darts. People of all ages and abilities are invited to take part. Does this sound like anyone you know?

We are currently trying to identify a new Village Games Co-ordinator for the village of Wreningham, who would take responsibility for putting a team together and help to organise a sports roadshow for the village. Each co-ordinator will be offered a small financial incentive and continual support from the Rural Sports Development Officer for South Norfolk.

South Norfolk teams will be heading to Framingham Earl Sports Centre on Sunday 10th June 2012 to take part in the district’s Village Games competition.   The County finals (should Wreningham be successful at the district finals) will be held at the UEA Sportspark on Sunday 15th July 2012.

In 2011, a massive 88 villages from across the county have taken part in the project and an incredible 2,500 participants attended the 6 district games. In South Norfolk, a total of 18 villages participated in the district's village games. Don’t let your village miss out!

If you would like to co-ordinate a team or represent your village in the South Norfolk Village Games please contact Ellen Vanlint on: 01603 731566 or ellen.vanlint@activenorfolk.org for further details or visit Active Norfolk’s website: www.activenorfolk.org/villagegames

Wreningham Fuel Trust

The Trust Deed sets out that “The income from Wreningham Fuel Trust has to be given in providing fuel for the poor persons of the parish of Wreningham”.  This means that the charity income is available to anybody in the parish who is in need and the application may be made by the needy person or anybody who wishes to nominate a person to receive help towards their fuel bills.  It is a requirement of the Trust Deed that all the money received in the year is paid out in the same year.  Traditionally, in the event of few applications, the Trust invites persons over 70 years to apply to the fund.

We are now inviting applications for a distribution to take place in January.  Please apply by Wednesday 9th November with name and address of applicant or nominated person to the clerk: Christine Minns, High Gables, Church Road, Wreningham, NR16 1BH. (Tel: 488123).  If you need any further explanation or details do contact me by phone.

Wreningham Fuel Oil Scheme

The village oil purchase scheme has now completed four orders over the last year. Savings have averaged over 2p per litre and a total of 51 individual orders have been made. Regarding price, the more people that get involved and order the greater the savings for everyone. Orders are placed every quarter. However, last year the December 1st order was placed at a peak time and it was difficult to obtain delivery of the entire quantity within the desired time frame. For that reason I am moving the order points forward by one month, to avoid the peak pre-Christmas period. The new order points will be 1st November, 1st February, 1st May and 1st August.

As always, orders can be placed by contacting Geraint Harris by phone on (01508) 481912 or emailing geraint.harris@gmail.com in the week or two prior to the order date. Once all the orders are received I ring around the local suppliers to obtain the best possible price for the total order quantity; for this reason I won't know the oil price prior to the order date. The chosen supplier then contacts the individual clients to arrange delivery, which typically happens between 5 and 10 days after placing the order.

VCS SOS

South Norfolk Council has funded a new project called VCS SOS which will be delivered in partnership with Norfolk Rural Community Council (NRCC) and Voluntary Norfolk (VN). The VCS part of the title refers to the Voluntary and Community Sector and the SOS part I hope will be self-explanatory.

The basic aim of the project is to help existing groups in South Norfolk become more financially sustainable and to support the set up of new community based organisations in South Norfolk, something that both NRCC and VN have considerable experience and expertise in. Download the flyer

South Norfolk churches sow seeds to reap funds

A South Norfolk churches flower festival has blossomed after parishioners were given just £100 and challenged to sow it and multiply it to raise parish funds.

Congregation members of the Upper Tas Valley Benefice - comprising the parishes of Ashwellthorpe, The Forncetts, Fundenhall, Hapton, Tacolneston and Wreningham - were given a cheque for £100 and challenged to go out and multiply it by any form of fund raising they could think of.

"The problem was how to split the £100 between all the people who wanted to accept the challenge," said Benefice treasurer, Christine Minns. Enterprising congregation members decided to quite literally sow the money and see what would grow.

"We agreed to do one big fundraising event and the £100 was made available to anybody wishing to buy seeds to grow plants for a plant stall, or for the purchase of flowers for the flower festival," said Christine.

The resulting flower and craft festival takes place at the freshly painted church at Tacolneston on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th May between 10am and 4pm each day.

The theme of the festival is "All things bright and beautiful" and it will comprise a Flower Festival, with paintings and craft work on display, with some demonstrations, along with a plant stall, secondhand book stall, homemade cake stall, a "teddy" tombola and refreshments.

The proceeds from the festival will go towards the general administration of the Benefice such as clergy expenses, service materials, admin, licenses and insurance.

For more details contact Christine Minns on 01508 488123.
